We estimate, in the case of Chile, the implicit tax rates on the earned and the unearned incomes of destitute and poor households. We found that between 1990 and 2009 the implicit tax rates increased steadily for both socioeconomic groups. The implicit tax rates on earned income increased from 4% to 31% in the case of destitute households, and from 6% to 37% in the case of poor households. The implicit taxes rates on unearned income, meanwhile, increased from 9% to 46% in the case of destitute households, and from 9% to 55% in the case of poor households.<\/p>\n<h3>RESUMEN<\/h3>\n<p>Los programas de asistencia social que incluyen transferencias monetarias gravan de manera impl\u00edcita los ingresos de los hogares. Nosotros estimamos, para el caso de Chile, las tasas impl\u00edcitas de impuestos a los ingresos laborales y no laborales de los hogares indigentes y pobres. Encontramos que entre 1990 y 2009 las tasas impl\u00edcitas de impuestos aumentaron de manera sostenida para ambos grupos socioecon\u00f3micos.
